Nationwide Insurance complaints

I have been enrolled with Nationwide Ins. Auto and Home policies.

This past May 23rd 2016 I met with and accident ( not at fault) . My car was an expensive one and I had a full coverage policy with extra cost of "New Car Replacement, PLUS". Nationwide refuse to reimburse me the right value of the car. They offer me the same amount of money as the other party's Ins.

had offered . My car was purchased cash . Nationwide is not a reliable company and I am forced to hire a lawyer at Nationwide cost including court cost. My name is Ghislaine Hylton and my car was a TOYOTA HIGHLANDER LIMITED 2013 with only 13,900 miles.

If Nationwide cannot meet their responsibility I will call Better Business Bureau and FOX FIVE to make my case public.

To date, I am without transportation. How do you like that.

You also have the right to get your state's board of Commerce and Insurance involved. Hope this helps. Just pass it along to everybody you know who is being screwed by them.

Guest

You are confused. Your insurance covers when you are at fault.

In this case the at fault drivers insurance is responsible. You should complain about that company.

No, either insurance company is responsible. Yours or the at-fault party's.

Your company is contracted to defend you. The other party's carrier is contracted to defend them.

I advise my customers to seek retribution from the at-fault carrier first, but if they're not satisfied with the outcome, their own company will gladly step in and subrogate against the at-fault carrier. Of course, the customer will be responsible for their deductible, but that will also be subrogated.

This customer may have over paid for his vehicle. Insurance companies are only responsible for the actual cash value of the vehicle, not what is paid for it or what a customer thinks it is worth.

They will go by a combination of NADA, Business version, Kelly Blue Book and local dealership's input. They pay hundreds of thousands of claims a week and have a very clear picture of a vehicle's value.

Smartride FALSE CLAIMS

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I have had a BAD experience with SMARTRIDE.

I had 19% discount and my husband 21% discount and our rates went UP. Each time the policy renews they go UP. Our agent's response:

"They" will find some way to get the money out of you.

It must've gone up throughout the state.

However........my other sister and son also have Nationwide and their rates did NOT go up.

As well the discount is a farce. It only discounts maybe 4 parts of your auto policy, not the entire premium on your auto you are driving. And then, it doesn't give you the full discount on those items either!!

Additionally, the discount is supposed to STAY on your vehicle.

They removed mine by "accident" and can't seem to figure out how to put it back on.

My husband got a different, lower cost vehicle and his insurance went up and they took the smartride discount off because he has a different vehicle.

REALLY!!!!!????? It's not like the DRIVER changed.

Don't do it. Not worth the hassle and aggravation.

You also have to have the plug in at the BEGINNING of your renewal or you'll end up having it in for 6 months!!

DISGUSTED with Service and all this at NATIONWIDE.

May switch to State Farm. Their auto insurance is Much much cheaper.

Pros:

  • Insurance agent is very nice
Cons:
  • Unfulfilled promises smartride
  • Smartride
  • Loss of smartride with change of vehicle
Reason of review:
Smartride discount removed and not as stated. Where is the full 19% discount for my auto and my husband's 21% discount. Why was it removed off husband just because he changed vehicles?

They like to take out,"Company," Life Insurance Policies on people that have information in their databases, regardless of consumers being participating members for said policies and run up the bills by taking out loans in their name, and charging the so-called,"Consumers," (again, doesn't matter if they're participating members, or not) for these illegitimate loans and bills.

They have stated multiple times that they do not need verification of signatures or,"Agreements To Pay," which goes against Ohio State Law, and most other states to boot. They are also illegally blocking people from asking questions regarding said bills, or anything to do with the policies beyond the policy numbers.

And for the people who are legitimately paying for these accounts, they like to strong arm them for their signatures on the illegal accounts.

Also, after seeing what another gentleman wrote regarding their Business Licenses, I'm fairly certain they are Operating Under False Pretenses as far as being able to operate a business under full capacity.

It would be very likely, given several attempts to pull licenses from the Ohio State Insurance Department's Consumer Information Searches, that they may have had licenses revoked by The Ohio State Government.

The part regarding their business licenses may or may not be speculation, due to the overall glitchy nature of I.T. systems, in general, anymore.

However, given their nature for Fraudulent and Incredibly Deceptive Business Practices, I wouldn't put it past these,"People," for operating nationally with no licenses whatsoever.

All I can do is write a review and hope people contact The Ohio State Insurance Department, for general questions regarding their right to practice business.

Would also recommend pulling their business licenses through your state of residency, and contacting them regarding any complaints you may have as far as business procedures with whatever accounts you have open through them.

Recommend pulling accounts that you have open through them, as they cannot be trusted, whatsoever, and you have the right to not do business with them, should you choose to look elsewhere.

Would also recommend legal action against them from consumers currently having major account and policy issues, with proof and paperwork, of course.

If you are shopping for insurance, stay away. They are NOT,"On Your Side," by any stretch of the imagination.

Be careful of Nationwide's "bait and switch" online auto insurance quotes (at least for Connecticut). After spending time selecting the personalized coverage I wanted ("your way coverage"), I had a six month quote of $650/ $108 monthly......(I am the only driver, no accidents 40 years, good credit), yet at final checkout I noticed the premium had more than doubled to a six month premium of $1,447/ $214 monthly.

The only change was that I selected to EXCLUDE from the policy an 88 year old non-driving member of my household. Additionally, the HIGHER QUOTE ALSO had Nationwide EXCLUDING other items that were previously included in the lower rate policy, such as no roadside assistance, no car rental, no loss deductible (evidently, if you don't have loss deductible and you total your car while being a Nationwide policy holder...you will still be required to pay your deductible to Nationwide on the totaled car.

Harleysville Insurance (Nationwide) Refused to Properly Repair my Car

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

My vehicle was struck by a car insured by Harleysville Preferred Insurance (A Nationwide Subsidiary) on 07/04/2014 and nearly two years later, property damage is not resolved and Nationwide has instructed their employees to not respond to any information regarding this claim.

The field agent wrote an estimate for 1500.00 who demanded a Mercedes vehicle can be repaired by any shop at the quoted price. The estimate was intentionally low-balled with many holdbacks. No shop in the world car repair my vehicle to pre-loss condition based upon the estimate written by Nationwide.

There are also safety concerns due to damage to the sidewall of a new tire, Nationwide insists there is no structural damage to the tire because it holds air. Nationwide refused to inspect the tire to the same standard as a retreaded tire to ensure there is no issues with the tire coming apart at highway speeds. The adjuster reports if the tire fails, take it up with the tire manufacturer as Nationwide is not responsible for any future tire failure as a result of collision damage.

After repairs were completed per the estimate, the plastic panels on the lower doors are loose, scraped, bent out of shape and Nationwide refuses to reinspect or make any adjustment citing it was properly repaired by polishing. Every shop who looks at the damage requires all the plastic panels to be replaced or their shop will not attempt the repairs. New estimates were written by three shops ranging from 1500.00 to 1550.00 and Nationwide demands these parts were not damaged in a side impact collision.

The state insurance commissioner will not help resolve the matter because employees of insurance companies are on the board of directors. A letter written to me suggests taking legal action against a powerful insurance company to resolve the property damage. Does anyone believe Nationwide will pay the difference on my claim if I spend 5,000.00 in legal fees?

Its no wonder there are so many complaints against Nationwide for defrauding their own customers to increase their profits.

Nationwide Insurance Flood Damage Claim Review from Huntington, West Virginia

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

If you have NATIONWIDE INSURANCE, be aware of what Nationwide insurance companies are doing. I have had Nationwide Insurance on my home and business for many years.

In January, I filed a claim for water damage at my home caused by a door that was damaged in a storm. Nationwide Insurance has fought harder to not pay my claim and to not take care of their clients, sad fact they just don't care. Their famous logo "Nationwide is on your side", is so not true! Their on the side of denying your claim.

They have spent more money bringing their so called independent engineer, Who stated he had five other jobs for the same adjuster in the past week, rather than taking care of their client. I'm sure they spent quite a bit of money to bring him down from Columbus, seems it would have been cheaper to pay the claim. They want to blame claims on construction defects, hoping you'll go away. I requested copies of the reports, which they denied to give me.

Yeah... thought insurance companies were supposed to help find coverage when you have a claim. I spend thousands of dollars a year with Nationwide Insurance. You have to have insurance but you can't use it.

If you have Nationwide Insurance, you really need to look at coverage through another company. Should you ever have a claim, trust me they will fight you harder not to pay the claim than to pay the claim. I wish our state could do some kind of insurance reform protecting the people of West Virginia from insurance companies! High prices and not paying claims, no wonder they can afford skyscrapers in large cities.

It's not the agents fault, it's the company they sell for who doesn't care.

I called on Saturday (05/21/2016) to cancel my auto policy (5345V760530), with nationwide insurance, was sent a form through email and my contract with you should have ended, but to my uttermost surprise, I got a bank alert for premium deduction, as well as $35 overdraft fee (because I did not fund that account for that bill). I called back today, (05/25/2016) and your agent I spoke with told me that I was charged because the bill had been sent to my bank prior to the time I called. Why didn’t the agent I spoke with on Saturday inform me that the next bill had been sent to my bank, for me to call and decline the transaction?

I don’t understand, why you guys are so awful. All I have ever experienced with you has been one disappointment or another.

Please I want to request an immediate reversal of that charge, it is completely inappropriate.

Nationwide Insurance Smartride Auto Insurance Review from Scotchtown, New York

Was not happy with this smart ride at all!!

It was a waste of my time. Amazing how I received only 10% off! When all my reports were so good? Then to add more to my bill because the rates went up in my area! Really how convenient?

So what was the point here?

Plus I sent it back when they said to. But now I might be charged $50 because they haven't received it yet!?

First they Advertise you can receive up to 30% off now I see their advertising up to 40% off !

Good driver or not good luck.

I'm sure this 10% is handed out more often!

Not happy nationwide are you really on our side?

For those dealing with this,"Organization," look up the NAIC numbers for the division you are dealing with and, once you find them, go through the Ohio State Department Of Insurance government site to pull up their,"Business Licenses."

If you are unable to find the license for the division you are having issues and difficulties with, please contact the Ohio Department Of Insurance, as they will be able to explain why (if you are unable to pull anything up) and help get you on the right track with what you need to do through your own state's department of Insurance, for filing complaints, etc. Happy hunting.

Awful

very awful service. Terrible insurance company. I have called them more than 5 times in two years for different issues without satisfactory resolution at any point in time. They have the worst customer service, worst service and a lot of hidden charges.

It not advisable to use this insurance service at all, as what you will experience would be nothing short of disappointment.

The worst part is the supervisor getting back are more disrespectful than the agents, argues to support colleagues without tangible facts and usually insinuate that you are free to shop elsewhere or insurance if you are not satisfied with their service and even when you opt out of your .policy, you may still be charged.

I strongly advise people not to go for nationwide at all

Smart Drive Discount Program questionable

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

HI,

We joined Nationwide 1 year ago. We have completed the Smart Drive program for potential discount. The 40% discount potential is misleading in that the discounts apply to hand picked items* and isn't a blanket discount. We qualified for 31% on those items* that are hand picked. Our 31% resulted in about 6% discount. Some of those discounts are erased by rate increases.

Nationwide agents lack the knowledge to itemizes the discounts. However a Smart Drive representative can detail the discounts.

So in summary it is disgusting in that Nationwide leads customers to believe they can get big discounts when in fact they are very small for the efforts.

I would not recommend anyone use Nationwide Auto Insurance.

I rate Nationwide Auto a 2 star **.

ON 2/811/16 I called them to change my auto insurance to non owned coverage. since i sold the vehicle. They took a down payment from an existing customer. The payment has yet to appear on my bank's web site or their web site. They also billed me for the February 2016 payment for the canceled auto policy. They are crooks and are only about how much can we rip off the average person at the least cost to us. They also keep you on hold for at least 10 minutes through a series of inapplicable voice response before you can speak to a human.
